Hello! Chris and Stephen here, and you're probably a bit curious as to why we created this website. Well, we got the idea to put this site together after discussing how hard it can be to quickly find clarifications to rules while playing a new board game. Based on both of our backgrounds and our love for the board game hobby, we quickly decided to jump in and create our own virtual resource that provides clear & concise information so we and all our fellow gamers can easily find the information being searched for and most importantly....get back to playing our game!
We also realize with the thousands of games that are now being published every year it can be hard to sift through them all and determine which ones are worthwhile to play. One of our missions here at Board Game Mechanics is to give you the information you need in order to understand if a game suites your playing style and to also introduce you to some games that you maybe have never heard of before.
We both have full-time jobs during the day and run this website in our spare time (usually late at night when the kids are asleep!). We both detest running ads and didn't want to ask our visitors for donations every year to pay the bills to keep the Board Game Mechanics website up and running. The route we decided to take was to make awesome content that introduces you to new board games and provide you links to Amazon to purchase these board games. If you use one of our links, Amazon will give us a small portion of what you spend with them while picking up some new games (or anything else, like a TV or a Fridge). We hope enough of you will do this so we can pay the web-hosting costs and purchase enough coffee to fuel our late nights reviewing new board games.
We feel Amazon's affiliate program is perfect because (1) we know they are a trustworthy company to make purchases through and (2) they sell everything, so we have the flexibility of giving you our honest opinions without the financial motivation of persuading you to buy every game we cover. We felt this was the best way to fund this website and give you an ad-free experience while reading through our articles. Hopefully you will think of us the next time you are about to make a purchase on Amazon.com!
Hello! My name is Chris and I'm so excited you stumbled across this site! I am a 29 year old financial analyst based in Columbus, Ohio. I was introduced to the board game hobby while I was in college and Settler's of Catan was all the rage. That was really the only game I played in college, but once I graduated, a few of my friends really got me into playing board games on a regular basis. I absolutely love competition mixed with strategy and board games provide that sort of outlet for me. I love introducing games to non-gamers and seeing the absolute elation people get when they love a game.
As for my personal life, I am married to my wife Stephanie and we have a baby boy named Garrett. Oh and I can't forget the family dog, Dakota (he's a 70lbs Golden-doodle). I also run a fairly successful spreadsheet business called TheSpreadsheetGuru where I blog about Excel and even sell some very popular add-ins. When I happen to have down time, I enjoy playing basketball, watching movies, and photography.
Hey guys, it's Stephen here. I hope you love board games as much as I do. My first strategy game was the game of Risk at a very young age and I have continued to play and enjoy new games every year since. I am 32 years old and I am a High School Teacher. My wife and I live in Dayton, Ohio and we have been married for 8 years. We have a wonderful baby boy named Micah and his older brother Leo, who is a a Golden-doodle:) Some of my favorite things to do in my spare time are ping pong, board games, concerts, and watching the Buffalo Bills. I pretty much enjoy any board game as long as there is some level of competition or fun. My taste in board games has definitely evolved over the years with complexity and I love to learn new games. I like to find/buy games I have never played before and then learn those games through videos and online tutorial's like our own website. I hope you find our website to be helpful and informative and we will be adding more games as we progress.
PS: If you are ever in the area of Dayton, Ohio and would like to play Table Tennis (Ping Pong), let me know. I am always up for a challenge!
