Top Ten Most Popular Board Games in 2018 on BGG

I find it fascinating looking back through the years to see which board games were the most popular across the board gaming community. It's also very interesting to see which board games have stood the test of time (especially when hundreds of new board games are being released every year).

To measure popularity, we used the database maintained by BoardGameGeek.com pulling data points near the very end of 2018. While many have argued there are flaws in the way BoardGameGeek ranks games as "The Best", their data does give us a pretty accurate read on what a large section of the board gaming community is loving currently.

The ratings on BGG are based on an average of user rankings weighted by how many people are actually voting (so if an obscure game gets a 10/10 rating from a total of 2 users voting, they will not leap to the top of the rankings). This list by no means is measuring "The Best" board games in 2016 but rather what was the most popular among board game enthusiasts.

Let's get to it and take a look at the most popular games that were being played in the year 2018! Bonus points to you if you can guess the #1 board game and be sure to brag about your correct guess or even give us your thoughts about the games that made the list in the comments section at the end of the countdown. Enjoy!
